The Story So Far:

5 years have passed since the Battle of Terinkal. Each year since that battle, your group has met at your favorite pub, “The Flayed Troll,” on the anniversary of the night the town of Terinkal was able to push back a band of marauding goblins.

In comparison to the many terrible wars, demon uprisings, and undead onslaughts the world has seen, it was a very small victory. Until that night though, the town had simply submitted to the demands of the goblins and cowered in fear. It wasn’t until a old man named Douven Staul came to Terinkal that the town had a leader they could follow and a warrior to learn from. Douven became your mentor, taught you what you needed to defeat the goblins, and helped free Terinkal from their oppression. Though many of the townfolk lost their lives, you and your friends stood victorious.

While you’re enjoying your ale, reminiscing, and catching up with one another, it becomes apparent that Douven isn’t coming. In fact, when discussing his absence, you learn that none of you has heard from him in some time and that his last known whereabouts was a town named Winterhaven nearly three months ago. Douven had never missed a celebration of the Battle of Terinkal.

Worried about your old mentor’s absence, you collectively decide to travel to Winterhaven to search for him.

What You’ll Need:

If you’d like to familiarize yourself with how the game works and some of the rules, feel free to read the quick start rules:

I also have the Players Handbook as a .PDF file if anyone wants more detailed info about character races/classes and the full rule set.

You’ll also need to create a character. The easiest way to do this is with the Character Builder that WotC offers:

It’s a free program that’ll let you build a level 1 character. It’s pretty simple and it’ll tell you if your character becomes “illegal” when picking stats and stuff. I Let me know any questions you have too and I’ll help out.

Please limit your races to:
  • Dragonborn
  • Dwarf
  • Eladrin
  • Elf
  • Half-Elf
  • Halfling
  • Human
  • Tiefling
Please limit your class to:
  • Fighter
  • Paladin
  • Ranger
  • Rogue
  • Warlock
  • Warlord
  • Wizard

The limits are only in place so that there’s less complexity on our first trial run of playing this thing. As time goes by, they’ve added a lot more races and classes.

Once you’ve created your character, email me the PDF of your character sheet it generates to Also, if you want to buy a set of dice, that’s great. But it’s not necessary. I’ve got two sets and I’m willing to share.

How We’ll Play:

Instead of the plastic miniatures and drawn maps usually used in DnD, I’ve got a system set up to display the maps and move the tokens about on my HDTV. I’ll control the game from my laptop, so that enemies and such can be moved in secret. We’ll roll dice still for attacks and such. I’ll pick up a case of beers too.

Keep on the Shadowfell 4E
